While they've certainly made their fair share of poor signings over the last five or six years, Crystal Palace have also made some exceptional ones.
For example, they might've left, but Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi were, or still are, some of the best players in the Premier League.
Likewise, even though it now looks like he'll be moving to Italy, Jean-Philippe Mateta has been one of the league's best strikers in recent years.

Another name that belongs on the list of incredible additions, but is set to stay in South London a little longer, is Adam Wharton, and if reports are to be believed, it looks like Crystal Palace could be about to make their best signing since the Englishman.
Crystal Palace target their best signing since Wharton
To say that it's been a busy month or so for Palace on the transfer front would be quite the understatement.
In addition to their departures, the South Londoners have also brought in a few players, like Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur and Evann Guessand from Aston Villa.
Not content with just the two first-team additions, the club are now also looking to bring in a third, someone who could end up being their best signing since the incredible Wharton.

At least that is according to a report on Sunday lunchtime from The Athletic's David Ornstein, who claims that Crystal Palace are still very interested in Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The reporter claims that Palace have submitted a club-record bid worth £43.5m plus £5m, which is now being discussed in talks with agent Jorge Mendes.
Ornstein continues by suggesting that there is a 'strong chance' Wolves accept an offer as high as that as Palace aim to complete deal in time for Strand Larsen to arrive by Monday evening's 7pm deadline.
In the background, Milan continue to work on signing Mateta.
Why Strand Larsen would be Palace's best signing since Wharton
So, the first thing to say is that Palace have made some brilliant signings since they picked up Wharton from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024.

For example, the likes of Yeremy Pino, Ismaïla Sarr and Daichi Kamada have all made a significant impact south of the river.
Moreover, it would be fair to say that the Englishman is a step-up in quality compared to Strand Larsen.
However, there are still two reasons why the Wolverhampton Wanderers man could end up being the Eagles' best purchase since the midfielder, and the first is based on what the team need.
For example, as things stand, the South Londoners have the seventh-best defence in the Premier League, and while they are going to struggle without Guehi, they have enough talent back there to keep things ticking along.

However, when it comes to scoring goals, the Eagles are actually the third-worst in the entire division, with just 24 to their name.
Unfortunately, there is a strong chance their poor attack could be about to get even worse with Mateta's exit, and therefore the dire need for a striker would make that forward one of their best additions in a long time.
However, it's not just necessity that would make the "phenomenal" forward, as dubbed by ex-Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, a great signing.
After all, while he's had a poor campaign this season, the former Celta Vigo star has proven that he can be a reliable source of output.

For example, despite still playing for a lacklustre outfit last season, the Norwegian international still managed an impressive tally of 14 goals and five assists in 38 games, totalling 2821 minutes.
That comes out to an average of a goal involvement every other game, or every 148.47 minutes.

Furthermore, during the season before that, the Halden-born poacher scored 13 goals and provided three assists in 39 appearances in Spain.
Ultimately, he might not be a world-class forward, but Strand Larsen could be a very useful addition for Palace this month and perhaps even their best signing since Wharton due to their misfiring attack.
