Mount was left out after suffering what Carrick described as “a bit of a knock” in training.
But the injury is not thought to be serious and Mount is expected to make a swift return.
Carrick said: “He took a bit of a knock in training. It is nothing serious.
“Obviously disappointing he is not with us today but he will be back with us very, very soon.”
Mount has struggled with injuries during his time at Manchester United but he enjoyed a good run of fitness this season.
He has made 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
