There’s just one surprise in the Manchester United squad that will face Fulham this afternoon - the absence of Mason Mount.

With Patrick Dorgu - whose recent performances and goals have made him the first-choice left-sided attacker - out with a hamstring injury, this could have been Mount’s chance to stake a claim for first-team football.

He has not started for interim manager Michael Carrick, but did come off the bench against Manchester City in the last minute and manage to score a goal that was ruled out for offside.

However, Matheus Cunha has been given the starting nod - and Mount is not even in the squad.

But according to Carrick, there is nothing sinister at play - Mount has just taken a knock in training and is expected to return soon.

Carrick said: “He took a bit of a knock in training. It is nothing serious. Obviously disappointing he is not with us today but he will be back with us very, very soon.”

Mount has struggled with injuries during his time at United but has been available this term.
