Thousands of fans have taken part in a protest march against their owners, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS and the Glazer family, outside Old Trafford this afternoon (Sunday, February 1).

Fans set off from two meeting points, one near Hotel Football, and the other at the end of Sir Matt Busby Way, at 1pm, an hour before their Premier League match against Fulham kicked-off.

The famous thoroughfare approaching Old Trafford became a sea of banners and smoke as pyrotechnics were let off. One banner read: "Glazers: 20 years of theft and lies." Another said: "The clock is ticking - Glazers Out."

Chants were aimed at both Mr Ratcliffe and the Glazers. The marches both finished near the Trinity Statue. The shutters were brought down on the United Megastore ahead of their arrival.

The protest was organised by fan group The 1958. They accused Mr Ratcliffe of helping to keep the Glazer family in charge who they said had overseen 'twenty-one years of a debt mountain, mismanagement and financial greed.'

The group said they expected more than 6,000 supporters to take part in 'the biggest ever protest against ’s owners, for the first time also officially directed at Sir Jim Ratcliffe.'

Manchester Evening News reporters on the ground said there were 'easily thousands' taking part.
