Matheus Cunha’s impactful return

Because of Patrick Dorgu’s hamstring injury suffered against Arsenal, Carrick was forced to make changes to his line-up, and it made space for Matheus Cunha to return on the left.

Cunha offers very different attributes to Dorgu on the left, but he added a fresh dynamic by cutting inside as Luke Shaw overlapped.

Having scored against Arsenal last week, Cunha added to his goal tally with a thumping right-footed effort in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes assist streak continues

Earlier in the season, Bruno Fernandes had a nightmare against Fulham, missing a penalty as United drew 1-1.

It means Fernandes has now registered an assist in four consecutive Premier League matches. He now has 11 assists in 2025/26 – more than his tally from the whole of last season.

Casemiro’s farewell tour begins

This was the first match at Old Trafford since Casemiro confirmed he is leaving at the end of the season.

The Brazilian midfielder received an adoring reception from the United faithful, and his name was chanted around the Theatre of Dreams when he opened the scoring.

His towering header was his 22nd goal for United, and fans will hope it isn’t his last. Casemiro also added an assist by setting up his compatriot Cunha.

Michael Carrick passes with flying colours

In his first two matches as interim head coach, Carrick led United as underdogs against Manchester City and Arsenal.

This match was the first time that United felt the pressure of being favourites, but it didn’t faze Carrick or his players.

United have slipped up several times this season against so-called weaker opposition, but this was a professional performance and a well-deserved three points.

Benjamin Sesko’s best Man United moment so far

Benjamin Sesko is yet to start a match under Carrick, but the Slovenian striker reacted in the best way possible.

After United were pegged back to 2-2, Sesko produced a brilliant finish to score his fifth Premier League goal of the season and rescue three priceless points.

It has not been smooth sailing for Sesko since his move in the summer, but this was a moment borne of hard work and commitment, and hopefully it fills the 22-year-old with confidence.
