The 31-year-old Man Utd captain was deployed behind Bryan Mbeumo for Michael Carrick’s first two matches in charge and Fernandes picked up back-to-back assists.

Fernandes has impressed in the attacking role and Carrick stuck with the Portugal and United midfielder in the same role for the Fulham match on Sunday afternoon.

Bryan Mbeumo has linked up superbly well with the Red Devils captain and the pair have become a key part of the attacking set-up in Carrick’s tactics since January.

Michael Owen boldly suggested that Bruno Fernandes could only become better if the Red Devils brought in better players to play around him in the Red Devils side.

“Do you know what, I think you could upgrade [his performances], he’s been playing in a poor team – it could be even more with better players around him,” he said, as per the Premier League’s official website.

Michael Owen’s prediction about Bruno Fernandes in his Man Utd role spoke volumes after his impact in the Fulham match

Fernandes picked up his third consecutive assist under Carrick after the Man Utd skipper set up Casemiro from a dangerous free-kick from the right side of the box.

Owen said that Fernandes had “incredible vision” and a deep understanding of the “weight of pass,” which was perfectly shown with the opener against Fulham.

“He’ll be enjoying this more than anyone, playing in the position that he wants,” he added.

“He’s got incredible vision, weight of pass, timing of the pass, he can score goals. He’s just a genius of a player.”

Casemiro superbly connected with Fernandes’ floated ball and fired a superb header into the far corner of Bernd Leno’s Fulham net in the first half at Old Trafford.
