Crystal Palace hold talks over signing big-money striker who'd be better than Strand Larsen -…

Things have not gone Crystal Palace's way this season.

The Eagles saw talismanic Eberechi Eze leave in the summer and, over the last few months, have seriously struggled in the Premier League.

Worse yet, Oliver Glasner has confirmed he's going to leave at the end of the campaign, Jean-Philippe Mateta looks likely to join AC Milan, and club captain Marc Guehi left a couple of weeks ago.

However, it's not all doom and gloom, as Crystal Palace are now being linked with someone who'd be an even better signing than another one of the targets: Jorgen Strand Larsen.

While their departures have dominated the headlines, Crystal Palace have made the most of the transfer window when it comes to incomings as well this month.

For example, they brought in Tottenham Hotspur's Brennon Johnson early on and recently agreed to sign Aston Villa's Evann Guessand on loan.

Additionally, the South Londoners have been heavily linked with Strand Larsen, and right now, it looks as though a deal is going to go ahead.

Indeed, reports emerged on Sunday afternoon that a fee had been agreed and the Wolves forward was travelling to have his medical ahead of formally completing a deal on deadline day.

That said, he's not the only striker they've discussed in the last hours of the market. At least that is according to a recent report from TEAMtalk, which claimed that Crystal Palace are interested in Jhon Duran.

In fact, the report has revealed that the Eagles are among many Premier League clubs that have been contacted by the player's camp over a possible return to England this month.

It's not entirely clear whether the move would be a loan or a permanent one, as he's struggled to kick on since his £71m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr last year.

It could therefore be a complicated and possibly costly deal to get over the line, but given Duran's immense ability and potential, it's one Palace should have been all over, especially as he'd be a better signing than Strand Larsen.

Why Duran would be a better signing than Strand Larsen

Now, in an ideal world, Palace would sign both Strand Larsen and Duran, thereby giving Glasner more options.

However, if it comes down to one or the other, then the Eagles should most certainly go with the former Villa man.

The first reason for this is based on their most recent form in the Premier League.

Sure, the Colombian international has struggled somewhat since his move to Saudi Arabia and subsequent move to Turkey, but the last time he was in England, he was sensational.

For example, in 29 appearances for the Claret and Blue last season, totalling just 1046 minutes, he scored 12 goals.

That comes out to a staggering average of a goal every 2.41 games, or more crucially, every 87.16 minutes.

In contrast, the Wolves ace's most recent form in England has been far from impressive.

In fact, in 26 appearances, totalling 1587 minutes, he has scored six goals and provided two assists.

That comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 3.25 games, or every 198.37 minutes.

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran

Moreover, it's worth noting that he has scored just a single goal in 22 league appearances this year, and that goal was a penalty.

That brings us to the second argument in favour of the 22-year-old: during his time in England, he proved he was capable of scoring some seriously incredible goals.

On more than one occasion, he scored a goal-of-the-season contender, and that ability to get the fans on their feet has to count for something.

Ultimately, if they can, Palace should sign both players, but given his record in England and his unquantifiable crowd-pleasing skill, they should go for Duran if they can only get one.
