Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal to sign Crystal Palace youngster Tayo Adaramola on loan for the remainder of the season, The Star understands.
The Owls have been on the hunt for an option on the left after following the end of Harry Amass’ loan from Manchester United. News that Max Lowe’s injury has worsened and that he will miss up to eight weeks of action left rookie youngster Reece Johnson as the club’s only specialist at left back.
Dublin-born Adaramola is a Republic of Ireland youth international and can play either as a full-back or as a wing-back. He has played for his parent club at senior level twice, with both appearances arriving in the FA Cup, but has growing experience on loan with clubs such as Stockport County, Bradford City and latterly Leyton Orient, where he played 19 times this season before his loan with the League One promotion challengers ended at the turn of the year. He also spent time in Belgium with RWD Molenbeek.

As first reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, it’s understood that loan terms have been agreed with the Premier League side and that Adaramola has agreed his switch, with the deal set to be completed during tomorrow’s deadline day subject to EFL approval. The Star understands Wednesday beat a host of League One teams to his signature, with Palace keen to expose the 22-year-old to Championship football.
Things appear to have moved fast. Owls boss Henrik Pedersen told reporters after the Owls’ narrow defeat to Wrexham on Saturday that while Wednesday were exploring all options to strengthen the squad despite recruitment restrictions, no deal was particularly close to his knowledge.
On the importance of bringing in a left-sided defender to take the pressure off Johnson, Pedersen said: “It is very important. You can see Reece, he does everything that he can, but today he played against a very, very good player. But Reece is growing. Of course we need support for the left side because we need one who also can sometimes play instead of him and one he also can look up to. But let's see what we can get in, it's not easy.”
Adaramola will need to be registered before midday on Monday in order to feature in the squad for the Owls’ rearranged Tuesday evening clash at Blackburn Rovers.
