Report: Nottingham Forest want defender who averages more tackles per game than Nikola…

Nottingham Forest will miss Neco Williams on Friday night when the Reds travel to Elland Road.

Williams was sent off in the first half against Crystal Palace on Sunday as the Reds failed to really capitalise on West Ham’s defeat to Chelsea yesterday.

Morgan Gibbs-White defended Williams after the 1-1 draw, with the Welsh performer looking completely devastated as he headed off the pitch before Ismaila Sarr’s successful penalty.

Forest are now going to be desperately short of full-backs for the game against Leeds on Friday and it would appear that the Reds are going to enter the transfer market at the eleventh hour.

Nottingham Forest want Robin Gosens

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Reds are entering the race to sign Gosens before the window slams shut on Monday.

The vastly experienced player has previously played for Atalanta, Heracles, Inter, and Union Berlin, with the left-back currently playing for Fiorentina in Italy.

During his time in Florence, he’s made 62 appearances, scoring 11 goals and claiming 12 assists, typically operating as a left-back or wing-back.

Williams will not lose his place in the team once he’s served his suspension, but Forest need some backup for his position anyway ahead of the final 14 games of the season.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Gosens actually averages more tackles per game than Nikola Milenkovic, according to Who Scored, and that certainly bodes very well indeed.

Gosens experience could be key

Making this signing does feel a little bit short term, given that he’s now 31 but his experience could prove useful for Forest for the remainder of the season.

Forest have a very youthful squad and adding someone like Gosens could be a bit of a masterstroke for Sean Dyche as he looks to get his squad finalised.

Gosens has top-level experience, having played in Italy and Germany, and as a result, it’d be great if Forest could get this one over the line.

With Williams banned on Friday, it’s going to be vitally important that Forest get somebody through the door and if Gosens signs, it will be fascinating to see how he gets on in the Premier League.
