Everton weren’t expected to be busy in the closing hours of the transfer window but a late forward deal could be close.
Everton were expected to be quiet heading into the final hours of the transfer window with David Moyes having to work with what he’s got.
The reality is though, Everton are only a few points away from the top six and tantalisingly close to the Champions League places. A bit more quality and a bit more depth and the Toffees could pull off an unlikely achievement this season. They left it late against Brighton and the need for a striker hasn’t lessened despite Beto finding his goalscoring boots again.
It looks like Everton are making a deadline beating move to solve their lack of goals though with Fabrizio Romano reporting on GiveMeSport that an offer has been made for Chelsea’s Tyrique George. The Italian journalist going onto claim that the transfer might not be far away from being completed: "Tyrique George, close to joining Everton. The deal is very close - initial loan with a buy option close. So, Tyrique George could leave Chelsea."
George is prolific at age group level and has shown glimpses of what he is capable of in the first team for Chelsea. With two goals and an assist in the Carabao Cup, the versatile forward is the type of attacker who thrives on getting into goalscoring positions. With Jack Grealish out injured for the foreseeabe, George, linked with Man United and with Sunderland could line up on the left-hand side of the attack.
Moyes hails striker impact for Everton
Moyes, despite being unhappy at being booked for his celebrations after Everton’s late equaliser, was clearly delighted with how his team recovered to going a goal behind, especially with the reaction of one player in particular, via Everton’s official website: "I wouldn't say [Brighton's goal] was totally against the run of play. I think whoever scored first was always going to have probably find the other team was going to come after them. We got after them a lot more after that and we put some more balls in the box and we looked a bit more threatening later on in the game.
"I say it all the time, [Beto's] a great boy and I'm really pleased with the way the supporters treated him today, because he's had it pretty tough and he's not scoring and finding himself out. But it was about this time last season when he started to score all the goals for us, so maybe he just gets that confidence now that gets him in and he gets the finishes."
Thierno Barry has shown flashes too with neither no.9 really showing that they are the man to trust, if Iliman Ndiaye can rediscover his early season form and George hits the ground running, Moyes will have every right to look up the table.
