Leeds United are not expected to hunt for a Jorgen Strand Larsen alternative despite the club being on the brink of losing out on the Wolverhampton Wanderers striker.

With the Whites being unwilling to bid above £40m, Wolves have accepted a £48million offer from Crystal Palace, with the 25-year-old completing a medical with the Eagles.

His agent, Tore Pederson, is a Leeds United season ticket holder and it is understood that Strand Larsen's ultimate preference was to move to Elland Road. But with Wolves inciting a bidding war, the Premier League's bottom club were always going to go with the highest offer.

Palace have the better financial standing following the sales of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer and Marc Guehi to Manchester City this month, and they seem poised for a further £26m boost as Jean-Phillipe Mateta nears a move to AC Milan so long as medical hiccups are overcome.

Leeds were always on the back foot given they had no PSR headspace to play with. Any amortised purchase would still have needed to be offset by June 30.

United, then, look set to end the window without a new striker. You can never say never but Strand Larsen was painted as a 'unique' market opportunity for Leeds, with few other sutiable striker options available mid-season.

Leeds insiders have insisted that there will be no panic upon losing out on Strand Larsen, with faith placed in current options. Free summer signings Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha have 14 goals between them so far.

Meanwhile, Daniel Farke's comments after Saturday's defeat to Arsenal suggest that, ideally, he wants a new goalkeeper through the door before 7pm amid the dropping of summer recruit Lucas Perri, who was supposed to be an upgrade on former back-up but current no.1 Karl Darlow.

A new 'keeper was not on the radar a few weeks ago but whether this was the board's decision or this is instead a late request by the boss is unclear. Only 12 hours of the transfer window remain.

Leeds are also aware that they lack a left-footed left-back back-up option to Gabriel Gudmundsson, following Jack Harrison's loan to Fiorentina. Links with well-paid Strasbourg defender Ben Chilwell, though, are baseless.

As for the potential of outgoings, Joel Piroe looks to be staying in house. The Dutchman has received numerous enquiries from overseas clubs and Championship outfits but had always made clear he wanted to stay and fight for his place.

If Leeds were to let him leave, it would only be with a sale in mind so any loan talk looks futile. On Thursday, Farke said that since Harrison's exit no-one else has asked to leave. That includes Illan Meslier.

The third-choice goalkeeper was unlikely to leave this month anyway given he becomes a free agent this summer and, as a result, clubs will be reluctant to stump up cash for someone who has failed to play a single minute this season.

In summary, it could be that Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Facundo Buonanotte is the only arrival this January, with Harrison and Harry Gray (loaned to Rotherham) the only senior exits.
