Man United have been linked with a new winger, but have they fallen asleep on deadline day?
Manchester United have struggled to find goals across the forward line this season despite regularly creating more than enough chances to win games.
Benjamin Sesko hasn’t quite lived up to his £75m price tag just yet although his goal against Fulham should give him the confidence he needs to kick on. Instead, it is Bryan Mbeumo who is United’s biggest threat with goals from wide areas not as consistent as the once were. A link to Yan Diomande could see a big money summer move but a late January attempt to add more creativity and goals on the left has fallen flat.
"Tyrique George, close to joining Everton. The deal is very close - initial loan with a buy option close. So Tyrique George could leave Chelsea," claimed the Italian journalist via GiveMeSport.
George looks like a good prospect, but if United are to catch the likes of Arsenal and Man City, they need starters who have no doubts about their ability.
Carrick praises ‘fantastic’ Man United forward
After scoring against Fulham, Michael Carrick was quick to defend Sesko, claiming that he shouldn’t be written off just yet, via the club’s official website: “Huge moment. I’m so, so pleased. Everyone in the changing room, players, staff, delighted for him, absolutely delighted for him and the reception he got when he came back in the changing room told us everything. Confidence, it wasn’t so much that. He’s been fantastic, we’ve worked with him a lot in different ways over the last couple of weeks. He’s bright in training, he’s looked dangerous, he’s done extra.
“The coaches have done a lot of bits on the side and Travis [Binnion], particularly, has done a lot of work one-on-one with him. Ben’s a big talent, he’s got so many positive things. And today’s a huge goal because that feeling as a striker to score a winner in front of the Stretford End late like that, it’s what you dream of. After missing the chance, which is what it is, strikers miss chances, to go again and put that away. Absolutely so, so pleased for him. He really deserved it.”
In a more settled team, with a more settled starting XI that suits how he plays, Sesko could yet become the striker who United thought they were signing. The goal against Fulham is a good sign, but it is just a start.
