Slovenian press react to Benjamin Sesko’s match winning goal and make the same point about Bruno Fernandes’pass

Benjamin Sesko scored the most important goal of his Manchester United career in the win over Fulham.

Summer signing Benjamin Sesko is celebrating scoring his first winning goal for Manchester United.

Sesko’s stoppage time strike against Fulham came at the Stretford End and came minutes after the visitors had equalised.

The striker has been unlucky to find himself on the bench under Michael Carrick, after scoring twice under caretaker boss Darren Fletcher.

Sesko is now up to five goals for United, with three of those goals coming in 2026. He missed several weeks earlier in the season with injury.

Reaction to Benjamin Sesko strike

Benjamin Sesko’s goal came after goals from Casemiro and Matheus Cunha, and the late winner maintained a 100 per cent record under Michael Carrick.

There was particular excitement in Sesko’s homeland of Slovenia to seeing their most expensive ever player score a sensational winner.

National outlet Ekipa reflected on Sesko turning around his poor luck when he hit the post from a header with United in the lead, to scoring the all-important winner.

“He seemed cursed, and then this… Bruno Fernandes’ pass wasn’t the best, it went way behind his back.

“But Sesko noticed it, stopped in time, went back for the ball, set it up and scored a truly fantastic goal with a fantastic shot from a really difficult position.”

Slovenia’s Futbol Mania also made the point that Fernandes’ excellent pass was still not an easy one for Sesko to score from.

“Today he was a substitute, but he proved himself with a fantastic shot from a turn and after a pass from Bruno Fernandes, which was not the easiest and Sesko showed a lot of concentration to stop the ball, then turned and hit hard – no chance for the Londoners’ goalkeeper and the Old Trafford stands fell into delirium!”

Newspaper Delo added: “Benjamin Sesko scored an extraordinary goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time to give Manchester United three points and create an ecstasy of excitement.”

Sesko reacts to heroics

Benjamin Sesko was thrilled by his heroic late strike that shot like an arrow into the top corner past Bernd Leno.

Speaking at full-time he expressed his excitement, and team ethic: “Scoring the winning goal and in front of the home fans – this is incredible! I dreamed about it.

“But the goal is not only important for me, but for the whole team, because we are on a good streak. I am happy that I was able to help continue this streak.

“Since arriving, the coach has said several times that we should enjoy ourselves and we are doing that.

“But not only that, you can also see how much we work when we don’t have the ball, which leads to good results.”
