Aston Villa have just hours left to complete their winter transfer business.

On the previous transfer deadline day in September, Villa signed three players - Jadon Sancho, Victor Lindelof and Harvey Elliott - while they secured two signings on deadline day in the last winter window.

After signing Marcus Rashford in early February, Villa then brought in Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi on loan during the final hours of that window.

This time around, Unai Emery is expecting a much quieter deadline day.

“Not. Definitely not,” Emery said when asked whether Villa would do any business on deadline day, following the 1–0 defeat to Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

“I think it is clear. We don’t have a lot of possibilities to do something to improve now,” he continued.

“We did everything we planned. It is completely done - the transfer window for us.”

Villa signed four new players during the winter window, including Tammy Abraham and Douglas Luiz, both of whom started against Brentford.

Abraham joined from Besiktas in a deal worth £18 million, while Luiz returned to the club on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Brian Madjo and Alysson joined earlier in the window for a combined £20 million and are both viewed as prospects for the future.

One situation that could be resolved today concerns Harvey Elliott’s future.

The Liverpool loanee has recently been reintegrated into the squad after going months without playing.

Emery has already confirmed that Villa will not take up their £35 million obligation to buy Elliott, which would be triggered once he makes 10 appearances.

Having featured seven times so far, Elliott can only play twice more unless Villa and Liverpool agree to remove the obligation.

Asked on Sunday whether Elliott would remain at Villa for the rest of the season, Emery explained: “Only we have this issue. Tomorrow is the deadline. And it is not changing - nothing - until today.”

Meanwhile, Villa youngster Jamal Jimoh-Aloba is expected to seal a loan move away from the club, with West Bromwich Albion believed to be the frontrunners.

Leicester City are also interested in taking the 19-year-old on loan following his match-winning contribution for Villa against RB Salzburg last week.
