Newcastle United are currently without some key players due to injury.

It’s been a stop-start season for the 23-year-old, who twice recovered from a knee issue before sustaining a hamstring injury in the FA Cup third round penalty shootout win over AFC Bournemouth on January 10.

The right-back is one of two long-term absences for the Magpies after Fabian Schar recently underwent ankle surgery. The former Switzerland international will be sidelined until April.

Newcastle United issue official Tino Livramento injury update

Livramento, meanwhile, is on course for a return in early March.

Howe said: “He's doing well. I believe he's having a scan today, a second scan to see the progress of his hamstring. Fingers crossed it's good news and I think if it is, he'll be back running outside.

“I think we're still probably five to six weeks away. We're looking at an early March return, providing everything goes well.”

Bruno Guimaraes & Joelinton injury latest

The Magpies have been exploring the market for a new defender but won’t be making any new additions before tonight’s 7pm transfer deadline. In addition to Schar and Livramento, Emil Krafth is still out with a knee injury while there is a strong possibility Jamaal Lascelles will depart today.

The midfield area has become another concern for Howe’s squad in recent games with both Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton picking up knocks, though neither issue is thought to be long-term.

Guimaraes hasn’t featured in any of the last three matches due to an ankle injury but could return for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg tie away to Manchester City, where United are looking to overturn a two-goal deficit.

Joelinton is ruled out for the next few weeks with a groin problem that required an injection.

Sven Botman and Lewis Miley two players to keep an eye on

Meanwhile, Newcastle are assessing the fitness of Sven Botman and Lewis Miley. The pair were named on the bench against Liverpool but Howe admitted afterwards he was unable to call upon either.

Howe told NewcastleWorld: “Sven had a tight thigh and we were under the advice not to use him. The reason they were here and on the bench is because we were giving them every opportunity to declare themselves.

“Of course, in the warm-up they might have felt different, the recovery time is so small, you don't always get the information that you need and the speed that you need.

“With Lewis, yeah, he couldn't bend his knee in the sufficient angles to declare himself fit.”
