Nottingham Forest submit bid to sign their new Morgan Gibbs-White in last-gasp transfer -…

It would be fair to say that this season hasn't exactly gone the way most Nottingham Forest fans would've been hoping in the summer.

Instead of building on the incredible form that saw them qualify for European football last year, the Tricky Trees have been embroiled in a fight to save their place in the Premier League.

Fortunately, there is some breathing room between Sean Dyche's side and the relegation zone, so their fate is still very much in their own hands.

Moreover, Forest are making the most of the transfer window, and it now looks like they could bring in someone who'd be like a new Morgan Gibbs-White.

Nottingham Forest could sign their new Gibbs-White

While other clubs have done more business, this month has still been a busy one for Forest.

For example, Douglas Luiz left the club to rejoin Aston Villa on loan, Lorenzo Lucca has joined on a short-term loan with an option to buy from Napoli, and a deal has just been struck for Stefan Ortega.

However, the club seem not to be done there, as they are now looking at someone who could end up being another Gibbs-White.

At least that is according to a recent report from Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, who claims that Forest are interested in Arne Engels.

Joseph goes further, actually revealing that the Tricky Trees have "made a bid" sign the 22-year-old midfielder, sending Celtic an offer worth £14m.

That said, the Scottish giants aren't too keen on losing him this January so getting a deal over the line in the final hours of the window could be difficult.

However, this is a move Forest should be all over, as Engels is an excellent player who could be another Gibbs-White.

Why Engels could be another Gibbs-White

Now, the first thing to say is that Gibbs-White is obviously a better player than Engels and has already proven that he can thrive at the top level.

However, given that the Belgian is still just 22 years old, you'd expect that to be the case.

Moreover, there are still some undeniable similarites between the pair which suggest that the Celtic ace could become as good as the Englishman.

The first is that, like the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace, the Dendermonde-born monster has shown an ability to play in a number of different positions.

Sure, he is at his best in the middle of the park, but the former Augsburg gem has played all over midfield as well as on the wings and at full-back.

The second, and most crucial, similarity is that the "powerful" ace, as dubbed by Brendan Rogers, is a reliable source of output.

For example, in 52 appearances last season, totalling 3310 minutes, the midfield maestro scored ten goals and provided 13 assists.

That comes out to a goal involvement every 2.26 games, or every 143.91 minutes, which would be impressive for an attacker, let alone a central midfielder.

Despite being a little less prolific this year, the Club Brugge product has still been dangerous, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 36 appearances, totalling 2357 minutes.

That comes out to a goal involvement every three games, or every 196.41 minutes.

Ultimately, while it might not be an easy deal to get over the line, Forest should do what they can to sign Engels before the transfer window shuts.

After all, thanks to his positional versatility and output, it's easy to see how he could be another Gibbs-White.
