Sunderland and Leeds United linked with shock move for £51million Brazilian wonderkid – reports

Sunderland and Leeds United have been linked with a surprise move for the £51million-rated Brazilian, though the report should be treated with caution

Sunderland have been linked with a shock move for Real Madrid forward Endrick, with the teenager’s situation in Spain reportedly being monitored by a number of Premier League clubs.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United are all keeping an eye on the 19-year-old Brazil international, who is currently on loan at Lyon and has made an immediate impact in Ligue 1. Despite the reported interest, Real Madrid are said to be in no hurry to reach a decision on his short-term future, instead preferring a calm and strategic approach to his development.

The Spanish giants view Endrick as a long-term asset and remain focused on ensuring he continues to gain regular minutes at senior level. For now, the forward’s loan spell in France is seen as part of that process rather than a stepping stone towards a permanent exit.

It is important, however, to treat the report with a degree of caution. Fichajes has previously linked Sunderland with a number of high-profile La Liga players, including repeated claims over a move for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López. Those suggestions never came close to materialising and were widely regarded as highly unlikely. As a result, any suggestion of Sunderland's interest in Endrick should be approached with a pinch of salt rather than viewed as an indication of an imminent deal.

Endrick officially joined Real Madrid in July 2024 following an agreement with Palmeiras that was announced in December 2022. The deal was reported to be worth up to £51million including taxes and performance-related add-ons, underlining the scale of Madrid’s investment. He signed a six-year contract and was unveiled at the Santiago Bernabéu shortly after turning 18.

Despite his age, Endrick has already delivered a series of landmark moments. He scored on his La Liga debut against Real Valladolid, becoming Real Madrid’s youngest foreign goalscorer in the competition’s history, before finding the net on his Champions League debut against Stuttgart. He also played a key role in Madrid’s Copa del Rey run, finishing the competition as joint second top scorer and helping the club reach the final.

After suffering a hamstring injury that ruled him out for several weeks last season, Real Madrid sanctioned a six-month loan move to Lyon in December to prioritise minutes and rhythm. Lyon are understood to have paid a loan fee of around £850,000, while covering roughly half of the forward’s wages. The move has quickly paid dividends, with Endrick scoring on his debut in the Coupe de France against Lille before registering a hat-trick against Metz in Ligue 1.
