New update reveals Marcus Rashford's stance on potential Man Utd return

A new update regarding Marcus Rashford's stance on returning to Manchester United has emerged following Michael Carrick's arrival in the Old Trafford dugout.

The England international left the club in the summer of 2025, having fallen out with former Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim. Rashford made the temporary switch to Barcelona, where he is spending the entirety of the 2025/26 season.

Since making the switch, the 28-year-old has rediscovered his best form, scoring 10 times in all competitions for the Blaugrana while also providing 12 assists. In spite of that, he's still received mixed reviews in the Spanish press, who believe that he could have even more strikes to his name had he not been so wasteful in front of goal.

Considering that Rashford's problems at United largely all stemmed from Amorim, there has been speculation that he could return to the club should Barcelona not trigger their option to buy. In recent days, reports have even detailed that Carrick is keen to bring the England international back to the Theatre of Dreams.

However, a new update from GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed exactly how Rashford feels about potentially picking up where he left off. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he revealed that the winger is concentrating on his time at Barcelona, adding that he's "not even thinking" about potentially returning to United.

Romano said: "For Marcus Rashford, there’s no obligation to buy, it’s a loan with a buy option for €30 million. This is the fee in case Barcelona decide to sign Rashford in the summer of 2026.

"So Rashford is doing very well, a very good impact, and it’s still the beginning. It’s just two months into his new chapter at Barcelona. So Rashford is very happy with the situation.

"I can tell you that Rashford is very happy with the city, with the league, with the club, with the manager, and with the teammates. Rashford loves his new life at Barcelona.

"And so Rashford is fully focused on Barca, not even thinking about the Manchester United return from the loan and maybe make it again at United one day. The full focus is on Barcelona."

Although Carrick might wish otherwise, there is a desire within Barcelona to retain Rashford's services beyond the 2025/26 campaign. The Telegraph, who revealed that Carrick wants the Carrington graduate to return, also added that Hansi Flick is keen to activate the option to buy agreed with United.

The German manager has made no secret of his admiration for the loan signing, stating in December that he was delighted with the levels of professionalism Rashford had shown since joining the club. He said: "When he’s on the bench, it shows we have a good team.

"What I can say is that he’s an absolutely professional player, his attitude, his mentality is fantastic. At the beginning, he had to adapt a little bit, but now he’s at his best level.

"I speak with the players when they’re not playing, [to explain] why. And he said to me mister, in England they say boss, ‘You don’t have to tell me this. It’s only about the team, we have to win three points, nothing else is important.’ It’s the right attitude, the mentality of him, and I’m really happy he’s here."
