Leeds United's relegation rivals handed early deadline day transfer boost with £38m Chelsea…

Leeds United’s Premier League relegation rivals look set for a busy transfer deadline day.

Leeds United’s key relegation rivals West Ham look set to strengthen their defensive ranks with a Premier League loan move this deadline day.

The Hammers are set for a busy final few hours of the January transfer window and defensive reinforcements have long been a priority for recruitment chiefs. No one has conceded more than their 48 goals this season, a record which has played a large part in their recent struggles.

West Ham went 2-0 up at Chelsea on Saturday before losing 3-2 and centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for violent conduct, meaning a three-match ban will weaken his side’s defensive ranks. But they do now look set to add Axel Disasi from their weekend opponents on deadline day.

Sky Sports reported on Monday morning that Disasi is expected to join Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on loan for the remainder of the season. They add that West Ham have fought off competition from AC Milan and Fiorentina for the 27-year-old, whose preference was to stay in the Premier League and keep living in London.

Disasi joined Chelsea from Monaco in a £38million deal back in 2023 but has struggled for minutes, spending the second-half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after being moved into his parent club’s so-called ‘Bomb Squad’. The defender has returned to team training under Liam Rosenior but has not played a single minute this season.

Should the deal go through as expected today, Disasi will likely be in the West Ham squad for Saturday’s massive Premier League trip to Burnley. He will be fighting for minutes with Max Kilman and Dinos Mavropanos, with Todibo set to return in three game’s time.

Leeds’ key relegation rivals are also looking to strengthen in other areas, with a new goalkeeper being eyed potentially on loan. They have already spent almost £50m combined on the forward trio of Pablo Felipe, Taty Castellanos and Adama Traore.

They have also waved goodbye to a handful of first-team players, however, most notably Lucas Paqueta who joined Flamengo in a £38.5m deal last week. He joined striker Nicklas Fullkrug and midfield trio Guido Rodriguez, James Ward-Prowse and Luis Guilherme in moving on.
