Arsenal are exploring a shock deadline day move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, it has been claimed. The Gunners are on the lookout for late reinforcements in midfield after losing Mikel Merino to a foot injury and have already made direct contact around a late swoop for Tonali.
However, according to Sky Sports, a potential deal is going to be 'very difficult' to finalise as Newcastle are reluctant to sanction a sale with less than 12 hours to go until the transfer window closes. But Arsenal are still trying and pushing to make the deal happen before Monday's 7pm deadline.
If Arsenal do manage to get a deal across the line for Tonali, it would be a statement signing as the club seek to replace Merino, who is set for an extended period out with a bone injury in his foot.
