Sunderland’s Adil Aouchiche is on his way to FC Schalke 04 on deadline day of the winter market.
That’s at least what Sky Deutschland are now reporting. According to their information, the 23-year-old’s move to the second division German club is ‘nearing completion’.
Régis Le Bris has left him out of his core plans at the Stadium of Light. This saw the Black Cats allow the attacking midfielder join Portsmouth on loan in January 2025.
The coach again didn’t consider the attacking midfielder for the Premier League campaign, resulting in another loan move to Aberdeen last July. He played 1,990 minutes from 30 matches in all competitions for the Scottish club, managing three goals and two assists.
Aberdeen will first need to cut short Aouchiche’s loan stay for the German club to sign him.
Sky Deutschland state the Frenchman already has an agreement in place with Schalke. He is waiting for Schalke to find an agreement with Le Bris’ side.
Sunderland contract to be terminated
Aouchiche has a contract at Sunderland until 2028 and his deal will be terminated soon. Sky state the player will leave the Premier League side on a free transfer. As thing stand, only the final signature is missing.
Sky Deutschland journalist Kerry Hau took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an update.
He claims Schalke are on the verge of finalising the Sunderland man’s arrival. According to Hau, the English club and Schalke are now sorting out the last details of the operation.
It shouldn’t take long as all parties seem optimistic of concluding this rapid operation before the window closes later today.
