[Transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) deadline day is finally here and, for once, I am hoping West Ham United do more late business than simply recruiting a defender.
At this stage, Axel Disasi still looks the most likely arrival, with other rumours thin on the ground. The window slams shut at 7pm this evening and while a central defender remains the priority, West Ham are stupidly light in attacking areas.
To put it bluntly, having Adama Traoré and Callum Wilson as your main options off the bench simply is not enough — yet that is currently all we have.
Saving Money While Fighting Relegation
--------------------------------------
So far, there has been no major spending spree from the Hammers board. Instead, West Ham have largely broken even on transfer fees while significantly reducing the wage bill. It looks bad.
At a time when the club should have been spending to stay in the Premier League, they appear to have been saving instead.
There is a growing hope that we may be witnessing the final days of [David Sullivan](https://www.claretandhugh.info/david-sullivan-bio/) and Karren Brady running the club. Despite what they might like to believe, it will be this season — not Prague — that defines their legacy as custodians of West Ham United.
The next few hours will tell us everything we need to know.
We are about to find out just how serious they really are about keeping us up.
