In recent days, AC Milan have been expected to close a deal for Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.
There was an agreement in place between the two clubs. Even the player agreed personal terms, having rejected Nottingham Forest’s approach in favour of the Italian side.
Just when Mateta’s Crystal Palace exit was finally about to go through, some problems cropped up.
Gazzetta dello Sport note that Mateta’s initial medical reports haven’t really convinced the Rossoneri. As a result, the Italian side have ‘doubts about his knees’ and want to reassess his situation.
The Milan medical team believe the striker’s knee has had inflammation in recent weeks. Even if he has never had major injuries, Max Allegri’s side want to be on the safe side. That is largely because of how they nearly found themselves in a mess before Victor Boniface’s transfer fell through last summer.
The 28-year-old will undergo another medical examination today. There is uncertainty about the results, with the newspaper describing the deal as a ‘mystery’.
Corriere dello Sport also appear unsure about whether the €35m deal will go through.
The Frenchman’s new medical will take place in the ‘coming hours’ If similar knee problems emerge in the medical, the move will definitively fall through. Milan are expected to announce their decision soon after they receive all the reports.
Mateta’s intentions are not in doubt at all. He is very keen on moving to the San Siro and leaving Crystal Palace.
If he does stay, the Eagles won’t mind that. Oliver Glasner’s side have lost Marc Guehi and wouldn’t want to lose another key player.
