Wolverhampton Wanderers could be in the market to land Kalvin Phillips on a loan deal from Manchester City, according to reports - though big wages and competition from elsewhere could make it a tough deal to complete in the final few hours of the transfer deadline.
Wolves are still rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, 18 points away from safety with 14 games to go, and any new signings could well be with the Championship in mind for next season.
However, loan signings are still on the agenda and that could see Phillips make the move to the west Midlands in search of game time.
Report: Wolves Interested in Kalvin Phillips via Potential Loan Deal
Kalvin Phillips for Ipswich vs Leicester
The report by CaughtOffside states that despite being firmly into the Premier League relegation zone, Wolves are still aiming to land Premier League-proven players, with Phillips on their list.
It comes after the news that Angel Gomes will join the club's midfield ranks, whilst Adam Armstrong is set to sign from Southampton for around £9million including add-ons.
Manchester City are prepared to sanction Phillips' exit in the final few hours of the transfer window, ending his Etihad Stadium nightmare after signing from Leeds United for £45million in 2022.
His severe lack of game time, as well as underwhelming spells away on loan, means that City would be willing to accept just £10million for Phillips, even with his £160,000-a-week wages.
Wolves are thought to be considering a move, especially given the uncertainty over Joao Gomes' future, though that would only be via a loan-to-buy option deal.
Relegation rivals Burnley are also pushing, being able to offer Phillips regular starting minutes, but Wolves could boast a better financial situation and that could tempt him to Molineux.
It's been a while since Phillips regularly featured in the Premier League. Even last season, his loan move to Ipswich Town only saw him start 14 games in the top-flight, whilst his temporary switch to West Ham the season prior was poor, with just four starts in the centre of midfield before they opted not to bring him back to London.
