Taylor Harwood-Bellis will not leave Southampton in the final hours of the winter transfer window amid his links with West Ham United.
According to an update by David Ornstein on The Athletic, Taylor Harwood-Bellis is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 24-year-old Southampton defender emerged as a target for the East London club.
However, while recent reports suggested the Irons were ready to intensify their efforts to sign the Englishman from the EFL Championship outfit in the winter transfer window, he will not depart from St. Mary’s before Monday’s transfer deadline. So, West Ham must look elsewhere for a centre-back in the coming hours.
How has Taylor Harwood-Bellis fared in his Southampton journey so far?
Taylor Harwood-Bellis has made significant progress since joining Southampton from Manchester City. The Saints initially signed the 24-year-old on loan in September 2023 before completing a permanent move in a deal worth £20 million in July 2024. While the Saints have struggled in the last 18 months, Harwood-Bellis has been a rare standout performer for the club.
Harwood-Bellis has made over 100 appearances for Southampton thus far while chipping in with nine goals and six assists. Meanwhile, the English defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed. He has no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.
London calling?
Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been on West Ham United’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as the Hammers have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the winter transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Max Kilman’s long-term future at the London Stadium.
Additionally, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos have not been consistent enough during their spells with West Ham. Meanwhile, Igor Julio has returned to Brighton & Hove Albion after a frustrating first half of the 2025/26 season. Harwood-Bellis thus emerged as a viable target for West Ham, with the East London club pushing to secure the Englishman’s services before Tuesday’s winter transfer window deadline.
However, Harwood-Bellis will not leave Southampton in the final hours of the winter transfer window, compelling West Ham to look elsewhere for a new centre-back. That may not be an issue, as reports on Monday have suggested that Axel Disasi is on the verge of arriving on loan from Chelsea.
