European giants join race to sign Brighton star but wait on three-team agreement

Galatasaray have reportedly shortlisted Brighton’s Evan Ferguson as a late transfer target.

The forward is currently out on loan at AS Roma, where he has scored five goals and registered two assists in 22 appearances in all competitions.

But Ferguson has not wholly convinced during his time at the Stadio Olimpico, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini publicly criticising the forward on several occasions. Reports have also been rife in Italy that La Giallorossi would look to replace with a new loanee, if possible, as a result.

Roma have since bolstered their ranks with a flurry of attacking signings, but Ferguson remains on their books, for the moment.

According to Turkish news outlet Fanatik, Galatasaray have shortlisted the Irishman as a ‘surprise’ target and hope to acquire his services on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The Super Lig outfit are hopeful that they can strike an agreement with both Roma and Brighton to facilitate the move, and they have the benefit of time on their side to work on the deal.

Despite the European transfer window shutting this evening (7pm, February 2nd), Turkish sides have until February 4th to conduct all of their business.

If Ferguson is made available on Europe’s deadline day, Okan Buruk’s side are unlikely to be the only team in the race to secure his signature though.

Fulham have been linked with a move for the ex-Bohemians prospect as they scour the market for attacking reinforcements. They previously reached an agreement with PSV to sign Ricardo Pepi, but that deal appears to have collapsed.

Nottingham Forest are similarly pushing for a late attacking signing and have previously inquired into the availability of Ferguson. Sean Dyche’s side have pushed for a host of other Seagulls stars already this window, including club captain Lewis Dunk, as well as midfield duo Jack Hinshelwood and Yasin Ayari.
