12 duels won, five dribbles, Man Utd target proves why he's the only option to replace Casemiro - Opinion

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has enjoyed an incredible final campaign for the club, performing to a very high level.

Despite being written off at times in 2024 and 2025, Casemiro has been absolutely vital for Manchester United this season.

This is evidenced by the midfield falling apart without him.

Over the past weekend, Casemiro was great against Fulham, continuing his immaculate form, dominating the midfield battle, and looking years younger than he is.

Casemiro has forced Jamie Carragher to backtrack over criticism, admitting that football hasn’t left the Brazilian yet.

But the performances of the 33-year-old are bittersweet, considering his time at the club is ending.

Casemiro has forced Jamie Carragher into publicly acknowledging his criticism was wrong…

Should Carragher go further and issue a direct apology to Casemiro for his comments?

This summer, a midfield revolution awaits United, and Elliot Anderson is the only player ready to replace Casemiro.

Anderson is the league’s standout midfielder, not already at a top-six club, and would elevate this United side to new heights, potentially even becoming title challengers.

Playing for Forest against Crystal Palace, Anderson was the star of the show despite his side being a man down for half the game.

Anderson won 12 duels in the match, made 10 recoveries, four tackles, and 17 defensive contributions.

But his quality isn’t limited to off the ball, as he wasn’t dispossessed even once, made 10 passes into the final third, and completed five of his five attempted dribbles in the game.

This was a stunning performance by Anderson, proving exactly why he needs to be United’s top priority this summer. Anyone else wouldn’t be able to replace Casemiro.

Manchester United need to settle on new manager sooner to sign Anderson

Anderson is the standout United midfield target for the summer 2026 transfer window, capable of doing it all just like Casemiro, and his running and physicality would make him an instant upgrade.

However, the problem is that because he is so good, United are going to face a really difficult battle to convince him to sign with Manchester City and Liverpool, potential rivals.

So one thing United can do to move ahead of the two other sides is nail down the manager position early, with both of the others expected to have uncertain managerial futures.

Anderson will want to know what he’s committing to, and Michael Carrick is a manager he would surely love, given both are Geordies and boyhood Newcastle supporters.

This could be massive for United.
