Former Manchester United star turned TV pundit Rio Ferdinand has taken to social media to complain about the time it took to rule out a Fulham goal in the Premier League clash between the two teams.

Goals from Casemiro and Matheus Cunha saw United take a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford with the side - at that stage - on their way to picking up their third win in a row under Michael Carrick. Fulham did feel that they had halved the deficit, only for Jorge Cuenca's goal to be ruled out due to Samuel Chukwueze being marginally offside.

The decision came after a long wait while VAR checked the angles. It was then that Ferdinand posted a message complaining about the wait on social media.

Writing on X, he said: "It doesn't need to take this long..."

Fulham did eventually get a goal back, when Raul Jimenez scored from the penalty spot in the 85th minute, and the Cottagers then thought that they had got an unlikely point from the match in the first minute of added-time when Kevin scored a brilliant free-kick to make it 2-2.

United, though, had other ideas, with Benjamin Sesko restoring their lead in the 94th minute to extend the side's 100 percent winning run under Carrick.

Fulham's disallowed goal wasn't the only decision that VAR got involved with in the game, with United's first goal coming from a free-kick which was originally awarded as a penalty by referee John Brooks.

After that VAR check, it was deemed that the foul took place outside of the penalty box. It was a decision that angered Fulham boss Marco Silva.

"The story of the game started with a horrendous terrible decision from John Brooks with a penalty he gave," he said. "Horrendous decision from that moment, big, big mistake.

"It was the first time we saw all the Premier League fans and us coaches and players. We have to take all this frustration to win the next one."

He added: "The penalty was given by the tackle. After, because the decision was so bad, they found a different foul."
