Opinion: Everton fans must be baffled after hearing who David Moyes is considering signing…

Transfer deadline day is here and Everton are due to make their first signing of the window.

Everton are expected to complete the signing of Tyrique George, who will join on an initial loan with an option-to-buy from Chelsea.

George has been on David Moyes’ radar since last summer, so the Everton manager moved quickly to progress a deal following Jack Grealish’s season-ending injury.

That may be the only signing today, however, as a report has now claimed the Toffees are considering a move to sign a Manchester City player.

Everton fans must be baffled by fresh links to Kalvin Phillips

According to Caught Offside, Everton are keeping a close eye on Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

It’s said that Moyes and his recruitment staff are waiting to see if City soften their stance, as they’re currently demanding £10m for the former England international.

The Toffees are following Phillips’ developments today, and so too are relegation candidates Leeds United and Burnley.

If you could sign one player, who would it be Everton fans? 🤩

Everton fans must be scratching their head at the news, as surely Phillips wouldn’t even get a minute in the midfield.

Harrison Armstrong is staying at Finch Farm, so Moyes already has a plethora of better options at his disposal.

Plus, Phillips is on around £150,000-a-week, so any forthcoming deal would require substantial finances for a player badly out of form.

Kalvin Phillips has played one game this season

Since returning from his unsuccessful loan spell at Ipswich Town last season, Phillips has played just one game of football for Man City.

Pep Guardiola handed the 30-year-old seven minutes in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield Town in September.

Clearly, Everton should avoid this transfer completely, as it would take a while for the midfielder to get match fit again.

Perhaps the link has just come from the fact that Moyes had him on loan at West Ham.
