Medical booked for defender

West Ham United are closing in on the capture of Axel Disasi from Chelsea as the transfer window deadline inches closer.

The 27-year-old centre half is expected to effectively replace Igor Julio, who returned to parent club Brighton earlier in the window, upon completing a medical which has been scheduled for this afternoon.

Despite late links to players such as Southampton's Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Real Betis's Natan, West Ham's board have turned their attention to the cheaper option at Chelsea, for whom Disasi has failed to appear in a competitive fixture since last season.

However it is understood that the five-times-capped French international, who spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, is still considering other options despite having been booked in by West Ham to undergo his medical ahead of tonight's 7pm deadline.
