Offer made: Crystal Palace submit bid for "outstanding" Champions League player, response…

Crystal Palace have now submitted a bid for an "outstanding" Marc Guehi replacement, as they look to strengthen in the final stages of the January transfer window.

Palace could be set for busy deadline day

Palace are in store for a busy transfer deadline day, and bringing in a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta will be high up on their list of priorities, given that the Frenchman is now expected to complete a move to AC Milan.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is expected to complete a move to Selhurst Park, with the Old Gold accepting a fee of just under £50m for the Norwegian, who bagged 14 goals and four assists in the Premier League last season.

The Eagles are also yet to bring in a replacement for Guehi, who completed a move to Manchester City earlier this month, with Chadi Riad slotting in at centre-back in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest last time out, making only his second Premier League appearance of the season.

As we approach the final stages of the winter transfer window, Crystal Palace have now made an offer for a new centre-back, namely Club Brugge star Joel Ordonez, according to a report from The Athletic.

However, the Belgian club have rejected the opening offer, as it was below their asking price, so it remains to be seen whether it will be possible to hash out a deal prior to the 7pm deadline.

With Ordonez signing a contract until 2030 back in September, Club Brugge are in a strong negotiating position, but there are signs he could be an excellent signing for Palace, if they manage to tempt the Belgian Pro League side into a sale.

Ordonez could be "outstanding" addition to Glasner's squad

In truth, it will be difficult for Oliver Glasner's side to find any centre-back capable of replicating what Guehi achieved at Selhurst Park, with the England international captaining the Eagles to their first-ever major trophy last season, lifting the FA Cup after defeating Man City at Wembley.

However, the Club Brugge star has proven he could be up to the task, having been lauded as an "outstanding young footballer" by journalist Graeme Bailey.

The 21-year-old has been a key player this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions, including eight in the Champions League, and he made six clearances in the 3-0 victory against Marseille last week.

Crystal Palace could be set for a late flurry of additions before tonight's 7pm transfer deadline.

Having gained experience at the highest level, Ordonez could be a solid replacement for Guehi, and the fact he is still very young is an added bonus, so Crystal Palace should make another offer for the Ecuadorian before they run out of time.
