Sky Sports update on earlier deadline day report of Arsenal approach for Sandro Tonali

Earlier today, it was reported that Arsenal had made an approach to sign Sandro Tonali.

The claim was made by Florian Plettenberg who works for Sky Sports in Germany and primarily covers Bayern Munich, as well as being a ‘transfer window expert’, allegedly.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter claiming to have knowledge that Arsenal had already seen an initial approach by Arsenal rejected by Newcastle United.

As with all transfer stories, best to approach them with extreme caution, believe it when I see it etc etc.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter hasn’t got the greatest track record when it comes to these type of transfer claims, including stuff he has said regarding Newcastle United in the past.

Very quickly, there has been an update from Keith Downie, who regularly covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports.

He has rubbished the claims of Florian Plettenberg.

Keith Downie stating; “Newcastle United have had no approach from Arsenal for Sandro Tonali, don’t expect one, and wouldn’t entertain one…there has been no talks involving the sale of the midfielder this window. If Newcastle United are unwilling to allow Joe Willock to leave due to being light in midfield, the same (but stronger) message exists for Tonali,”

Seemingly nothing much expected to happen with Newcastle United on deadline day, apart from Jamaal Lascelles moving to Leicester City.
