Man Utd will sanction several loan exits on deadline day of the January window.

Manchester United have already agreed to send three players out on loan on deadline day of the January transfer window. United sources always claimed it was unlikely they would do any senior business before the 7pm deadline, with a focus on several loan exits at youth level.

Manchester World revealed Ethan Wheatley was still expected to join League One promotion contenders Bradford City until the end of the season, despite the fact they have already signed two strikers in the few days. Midfielder Jacob Devaney is set to join Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on loan until the end of the season, and forward James Scanlon will move to League Two side Swindon Town for the rest of the campaign.

United have not ruled out doing further business in the final hours of the window and are open to several other loan exits if the opportunity arises. Sekou Kone is also expected to leave United this month, but there is no immediate rush over his proposed move to Lausanne-Sport because the Swiss window is still open for another two weeks.

Jacob Devaney set for United loan exit

Jacob Devaney will relish the opportunity to leave Manchester United on loan this month and gain some valuable experience at a professional level. Although his ultimate ambition is to make it at Old Trafford, the teenager is well aware that he needs to shine on loan if he is to ever make that a reality.

Devaney has trained with the United first-team squad, but has yet to be given a chance at senior level. He has caught the eye due to his hard work and commitment and has shone with his versatility. Although he is primarily a central midfielder, the Irish youngster has also played in central defence and right-back. Those traits are set for a tough test at St.Mirren, who are involved in a fierce relegation battle and have not won a league match since before Christmas.

“I feel like I’m ready to play men’s football. Whether that be at United, hopefully. That’s what I’ve dreamt of since I signed at six, but I feel like I’m ready to make that step," he told the Irish Independent in November 2025. "There have been some top Irish players at United in its history, so hopefully I can be one of the next. I think [my dreams are] to get into United’s first team, win trophies with them, Premier Leagues, Champions Leagues and also to play for Ireland’s senior team.”

“Those values are drilled into us from a young age, you understand not to take it for granted. Being at the biggest club in the world, they attract some of the best players in the world, so you’ve really got to keep your feet on the ground. You are never too far away from the first team, that’s one thing they say to us, so it’s just to keep going. I’ve loved being there.”

“Once you get the first session out of the way, then it’s down to you to try to get the shirt off the lads in the first team. You’ve got to go in there and just work as hard as you can and hopefully you’ll get your chance. You have to just keep cool. Maybe every now and again you might have a look [and take in the experience], but you really just have to stay focused on yourself.”
