The latest transfer news on deadline day as a loan deal is cut short between West Brom and Aston Villa.
Aston Villa have decided to cancel winger Samuel Iling-Junior’s loan early, with West Bromwich Albion now on the hunt for a replacement.
Iling-Junior, who was previously due to spend the entire 2025/26 season at The Hawthorns, is set to leave just over halfway through his term to explore an opportunity in Italy. As reported by our sister publication, the Express & Star, Iling-Junior is expected to join Serie A outfit Pisa until the end of the campaign. That, just like his West Brom move, is a straight loan.
It never worked out as hoped for Iling-Junior in Albion colours, as he was in and out of the starting lineup throughout his stint and never built a positive relationship with fans. Supporters have often been on Iling-Junior’s back as his performances haven’t lived up to what he achieved on loan at Middlesbrough in 2024/25.
In total, Iling-Junior racked up 24 Championship appearances for the Baggies, 14 of which were starts. The versatile former England Under-21 international’s 45 minutes away at Portsmouth proved to be his final West Brom outing. Iling-Junior heads to Italy for a third time, after spells at Juventus and Bologna.
Is the Jimoh-Aloba deal still on?
Birmingham World understands this Iling-Junior development has no bearing on Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba’s imminent move from Villa to West Brom. Despite the deal involving the same clubs, Jimoh-Aloba is still expected to be announced as an Albion player by the end of deadline day.
West Brom decided to move for Jimoh-Aloba after Karlan Grant suffered a serious hamstring injury, due to keep him out for several months. Despite being a midfielder by trade, Jimoh-Aloba impressed as a left winger in the win over Salzburg. The teenager also played in that position in Villa’s FA Youth Cup Final triumph over Manchester City back in May.
Deadline day door opens for West Brom
Iling-Junior leaving the club today means West Brom now have some unexpected funds to play with. There are only seven hours to go until the deadline at the time of publication, but the wages previously spent on Iling-Junior can be utilised on a different loan instead.
The Baggies will undoubtedly take a look at the options available on the market in the coming hours, with developments possible before the window slams shut. Head coach Eric Ramsay may be tempted to sign a new winger as that’s the position Iling-Junior has left vacant, though there’s a growing need for another midfield option at The Hawthorns.
Birmingham World will be across any developments on that front and will bring you any West Brom transfer deadline day updates as and when they land.
