Manchester United youngster James Scanlon is set to join Swindon Town on loan for the remainder of the season. Scanlon has outgrown academy football and is ready to test himself in a senior environment.

The 19-year-old scored an impressive hat-trick in the Under-21s' win against Sporting Lisbon in the Premier League International Cup, a game Michael Carrick and his backroom staff attended.

Swindon are challenging for a play-off spot in League Two this season. They are sixth in the fourth tier, and they are managed by former Blackpool and Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway.

Scanlon was born in the Midlands but represents Gibraltar on the international stage, and he scored a brilliant goal against the Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier last summer.

The youngster missed out on a loan move in the summer window, but he will now get the opportunity to test himself in the senior game. Scanlon has scored five goals in 22 appearances for the U21s this term.

Scanlon helped the Under-18s reach the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup last season, and he contributed 22 goals and seven assists, which earned him the chance to train with the first team.

United rewarded Scanlon with his first professional contract at the club in May 2024.
