Sheffield United identify experienced Burnley figure as deadline day target - report

Sheffield United reportedly have experienced Burnley defender Joe Worrall in their sights.

The winter window has not been quite as eventful as Blades fans hoped it would be, with Ki-Jana Hoever still the only player to have been ushered through the door.

However, in the dying embers of the window, talk of potential incomings is rife.

Sheffield United linked with Burnley defender

According to Football League World, Worrall has emerged as a target for Sheffield United on deadline day.

It has been suggested a loan move could be on the cards for the centre-back, who has made just six appearances in the Premier League this season.

The former Nottingham Forest stalwart is also thought to have a host of admirers and it remains to be seen what will materialise in the coming hours.

Joe Worrall’s pedigree

Worrall is a seasoned operator at Championship level and made the bulk of his 226 appearances for Forest in the second tier. An imposing figure standing at 6ft 4ins, he is renowned for his whole-hearted approach and leadership skills.

The 29-year-old was part of the Clarets squad that escaped the second tier last season, although was a bit-part player.

His experience could prove crucial for Sheffield United as they look to climb the Championship table and edge towards play-off contention.

Wilder’s men currently sit 17th in the Championship table, seven points above the relegation zone and 11 points adrift of the play-offs.
