Lee Carsley has already predicted the surprising position Tyrique George could play at Everton

Tyrique George is close to completing a deadline day switch from Chelsea to Everton.

After Jack Grealish’s injury, Everton turned their attention away from a striker and towards signing a wide player.

The Toffees explored a deal to sign Harry Wilson, but the Fulham attacker indicated a preference to wait until the summer to leave on a free transfer.

George quickly became David Moyes’ number one target, and now the 19-year-old is set to sign an initial loan deal which could become permanent in the summer.

Interestingly, his England under-21 manager Lee Carsley has already predicted what position he could end up playing at Everton, and it’s not where you might think.

Lee Carsley reckons Tyrique George may end up becoming a striker

It was reported that Moyes was ‘fixated’ on signing a striker this winter, so it may come as a surprise that Everton haven’t managed to get one over the line.

However, perhaps the Scotsman is signing George as a potential option up front, as well as on the left flank.

Speaking after an England under-21s game earlier this season, Carsley explained that George has the attributes to develop into a number nine.

“He’s got the profile and attributes to develop into a traditional number 9,” Carsley stated in October.

“A lot of that development I would imagine will go on at Chelsea. He’s fast. He scores goals. He’s creative. He’s got good technique.”

Tyrique George stats

George’s statistics at youth level are really impressive, as he’s netted 22 goals whilst laying on 19 assists for the under-18s and 21s.

Such form earned him a first-team debut in August 2024, and since then, he’s gone on to make 37 appearances under Enzo Maresca.

Team Appearances Goals Assists

Chelsea U18 39 14 10

Chelsea 37 6 6

Chelsea U21 29 8 9

His only Premier League goal came against Fulham last April, and funnily enough, Everton next game is against the Cottagers.

The teenager could make his Toffees debut at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.
