Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith singled out Manchester United cult hero Matheus Cunha after his wicked strike doubled his side’s lead in a thriller against Fulham at Old Trafford.
Yet another enthralling watch provided by Michael Carrick’s men, and yet another three points as Manchester United extend their hot streak to three wins in a row against Fulham.
United seemed to be the better team for the first hour of the match, until the closing minutes when the visitors converted a penalty, and substitute Kevin unleashed a screamer to level things up, almost certainly guaranteeing a point on the road for the Cottagers.
However, Man United passed another test of character, fighting back to claim the win in the 94th minute thanks to a winner provided by super sub, Benjamin Sesko.
A solid performance, three more goals, and three more points as the Red Devils reclaim their spot in the top four of the Premier League.
Cunha provides his magic touch again
Matheus Cunha really is the man of the moment for Manchester United, with a stunning winner at the Emirates. Many eyes were on him today to repeat that performance once more, and with him earning a place in the starting XI, expectations were high.
Reacting to Cunha’s goal on Sky Sports’ commentary, Alan Smith made his thoughts on the Brazilian’s talent well known.
“A big goal against Arsenal, and another one here against Fulham. Just when the match you felt was delicately poised.
“He’s a Manchester United player, this fella. He’s got something about him. [He’s got] stardust in his boots. The Stretford End love him.”
At the beginning of the season, Cunha was questioned a lot about his lack of goal contributions, but with four in his last six, all of which were at crucial moments, he is making it pretty difficult for the critics to find a flaw in his game.
United’s top four hopes
Manchester United have the longest current unbeaten streak in the Premier League; they are also the only team unbeaten in 2026 so far.
With three out of their next four matches being against teams in 14th place or lower, this positive momentum is likely to continue for much longer, making them huge contenders for a return to the Champions League.
However, the pivotal matches lie a bit further down the line, as Man United still have to play their top four rivals again this season: Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The main factor that makes Man United favourites for one of the Champions League spots is the lack of extra games to play. Aston Villa still have the Europa League to focus on, and Liverpool and Chelsea are still in the Champions League.
A fully recovered and rejuvenated squad, week in, week out, could see them across the line by the end of the season. Furthermore, with the attack firing on all cylinders, already equalling their goal tally in the league last season, Michael Carrick’s men continue to make a statement of intent to the league.
