Scottish Premiership side Falkirk are reportedly closing in on a move to sign promising Aston Villa midfielder Ben Broggio on a deadline day.
Broggio was reported by Sky Sports News earlier this month to be the subject of interest from League One duo Wigan Athletic and Leyton Orient amid their respective battles to survive in the third-tier.
The outlet’s reporter Mark McAdam posted earlier this month on X: “Wigan and Leyton Orient are tracking Ben Broggio at Aston Villa. The England U19 International is very highly thought of at Villa Park.”
However, in a new twist it looks like the England Under-18 international has instead decided that his future lies north of the border. Here’s the latest.
Ben Broggio closes in on move to Falkirk
Burn claims that The Bairns are set to sign the teenage midfielder on a six-month loan deal which runs until the end of the Scottish Premiership season.
Villa have already sanctioned the deal and the midfielder has now been given permission to travel north to complete his move.
The report states that Villa are keen to see the 19-year-old get regular first team minutes, and that’s something he’s likely to get in the Central Lowlands as Falkirk, who are currently in sixth in their first season back in the top-flight, target an unlikely push for European qualification.
Broggio has chance to showcase his qualities in Scotland
Broggio has been at Villa for a number of years but has only ever made one first team appearance despite the hype that surrounds him. That came against Wycombe Wanderers in the League Cup last season in a 2-1 victory as the youngster made a brief cameo from the bench replacing Kadan Young.
However, he’s believed to be a player with a very high ceiling in terms of potential. At youth level for example, he’s made 31 appearances for the Under-21, scoring seven and producing three assists.
He’s also represented England at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-18 levels in the last three years and is hoping to make the jump to the higher age groups in the near future.
Broggio is under contract at Villa Park until 2029. He was briefly the subject of interest from Arsenal, according to Villa News, before committing his future to the West Midlands club.
