Crystal Palace transfer hopes quickly shot down – Club decide it’s not worth it

Crystal Palace have seen their attempt to sign Ruben Kluivert from Olympique Lyonnais fail. The French club have decided against a sale.

That’s according to Foot Mercato. The website provides a negative update for Crystal Palace after negotiations were opened earlier today.

Their latest information is that despite Crystal Palace showing concrete interest in the Dutch defender, Lyon have decided to close the door on the move.

Discussions took place between the two clubs, but Lyon’s management have no intention of parting ways with the defender. They consider him as important to their defensive rotation after he established himself in recent weeks.

According to a source within in the club, Lyon would consider a sale now as a panic one. They don’t want to be drawn into such a scenario. The French club believe that a January departure would not be advantageous from either a sporting or strategic standpoint. So, the deal with Crystal Palace has been cut off.

Where the Eagles turn now, remains to be seen. They still need a replacement for Marc Guehi following his move to Manchester City. Kluivert could have been that man, but Lyon have now definitively said no and shut the door to his departure.
