Everything you need to know about players Manchester United could offload on deadline day:

The winter transfer window is coming to an end and - while Manchester United may well remain inactive on deadline day - they could, theoretically, consider selling certain stars. These sales could potentially help trigger an eleventh hour move for a new superstar and here are a selection of possible departures.

Harry Maguire: With his deal running out this summer, the club might be keen to bring in a transfer fee instead of losing the experienced defender without compensation in June. He dropped behind younger prospects like Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven in the defensive pecking order before Michael Carrick's appointment but regained his starting spot under the interim manager.

Joshua Zirkzee: The forward has battled for regular minutes, with new summer signings leaving him with even fewer opportunities. Offloading him now enables United to recover at least some of their original £36.5million outlay and allow the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha to combine in attack.

Manuel Ugarte: Having failed to cement a consistent starting berth under either Carrick or predecessor Ruben Amorim, the midfielder is a contender for a late transfer and has been mentioned in connection to Dutch giants Ajax. His exit would deliver the financial room needed to pursue more mobile, technical pivots - both to help Carrick and to aid a new permanent boss in the summer.

Altay Bayindir: Following the arrival of Senne Lammens, the former Fenerbahce goalkeeper has been sidelined. A permanent transfer back to the Turkish Super Lig could prove suitable.

Tyrell Malacia: The left-back has struggled to reclaim a starting position following his recovery from a long-term injury absence. A deadline-day sale would help the club bring in funds while offloading a player who is doesn't look like securing regular football at Old Trafford.

Mason Mount: Despite his versatility, Mount has struggled for consistency and could be offloaded to help with FFP. A late move would allow the club to pivot toward younger midfield profiles who better complement Kobbie Mainoo, with fellow midfielder Casemiro set to leave in the summer.

Any departures would enable United to invest and one player they could target would be Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton. His club have maintained their stance on a valuation between £85m and £100m, indicating his lengthy contract and standing as one of England's finest young playmakers, and it may well take a big bid to convince Palace to sell after already cashing in on Marc Guehi in January.

Wharton represents the perfect technical match for Carrick's side thanks to his ball retention and the composure to control proceedings from deep. His distribution could also supply the ideal foundation for Mainoo to thrive in a more creative role a little further up the field.
