Ireland Underage International Set For Loan Exit From Manchester United

Irish underage international Jacob Devaney is set for a loan move to the Scottish Premiership, with St Mirren lining up a deal for the highly-rated teenager.

Devaney, just 18, has been a standout performer for Manchester United’s Under-21 side this season and currently captains the team. He has featured in every Premier League 2 fixture so far, initially under Travis Binnion and more recently Tom Curtis following changes at senior level.

The versatile defender has impressed across multiple positions, operating at centre-back, right-back and even in central midfield as United’s Under-21s have spent much of the campaign at the summit of the PL2 table.

Despite his strong form, Jacob Devaney has yet to make the step up into the Manchester United first-team squad, and a loan move is now viewed as the best pathway for him to get some senior minutes. St Mirren, who have not recorded a league win since December 20, are keen to bolster their options as they look to reignite their Premiership campaign.

A move to Scotland’s top flight would represent Devaney’s first taste of senior football and a significant development step for the Ireland underage international as he continues his progression at club and international level.

Jacob Devaney has amassed ten caps at underage level for Ireland between the u19 and u21 setups having been called up in September 2024. He made his debit for the u21 in a match against Croatia in June 2025.

Originally born in Barnsley, Devaney has links to Ireland with family coming from Foxrock, Shankill and Ballina, County Mayo.
