'The number one place': Why West Brom academy graduate sold for £1m turned down other clubs to make Albion return from…

The teenager departed Albion in July 2023 with Villa stumping up a £1m fee for the youngster - who had been at Albion since the age of six.

The versatile midfielder, who can play in a number of different roles, has risen up the ranks at Villa and made his Premier League debut in a recent defeat at Arsenal.

He then went on to net his first senior goal in a dramatic 3-2 victory over RB Salzburg in the Europa League on Thursday night - before Unai Emery indicated he was set to leave the club on loan.

Now Albion have won the race to land the talented youngster, amid interest from Preston and Leicester. It is understood the former were pushing hard to land the Villa man - but he has instead chosen to make a move to struggling Albion.

He has indicated that strong emotional ties and a want to help Albion out of the dire situation they find themselves in - led him to make the decision.

He said: "This was the number one place I wanted to come because of the emotions and feelings I have towards the club. Those emotions are still in me deeply.

“This is a massive club that should be in a much better place and I want to come here and help and do the best I can. I’m determined to help lift the team.

“I was here as a kid from the age of six, so it’s a place I’m comfortable at. It’s a positive for me to come back and I can’t wait to get going.”
