Michael Carrick has already saved Man United millions and it could help Ineos land£75m deal

Michael Carrick has not put a foot wrong since returning to Manchester United as an interim head coach.

A 3-2 win over Fulham on Sunday means Manchester United have three victories in a row under Michael Carrick, and the Red Devils are now only six points behind Manchester City in second.

United players have praised Carrick for his coaching style and his instructions behind the scenes, and it seems Ineos are going to have a really difficult decision to make about a permanent appointment in the summer.

How many wins in a row will Michael Carrick make it now?

Regardless of what happens, it is going to be a big summer for United, especially with plans to overhaul the midfield department in the summer window.

Months ahead of the summer window even being open, Carrick has already given Ineos a helping hand by potentially saving millions.

Michael Carrick’s Patrick Dorgu masterstroke could save Man Utd millions

Patrick Dorgu was the first signing made under Ruben Amorim, and he arrived as a specialist wing-back for his 3-4-2-1 system.

For Amorim’s system to work, he needed unique profiles to play out wide, and Dorgu was only the start. United had been linked with buying a left winger in the summer, but those rumours have died down.

Carrick has been using Dorgu as a winger, and comparisons to Gareth Bale followed closely behind. Even after Dorgu’s hamstring injury, Matheus Cunha returned to the starting line-up and starred against Fulham.

The need to sign a left winger – or any wing-backs for that matter – has suddenly disappeared under Carrick. He has the same squad available as Amorim, yet United’s depth already seems so much stronger.

If Carrick stays on at United, suddenly Ineos can throw away any plans to sign a winger and instead put their full focus on a high-profile midfield signing.

Man United can prioritise £75m midfield signing

With Casemiro’s exit confirmed for the end of the season, the top priority is finding a long-term replacement for the Brazilian.

It is no secret that Elliot Anderson is United’s top target for the summer, but the Nottingham Forest star will not come cheap.

In fact, Anderson is valued at £75m, which would be Ineos’ most expensive signing at United to date if they can pull it off.

It would require a huge portion of United’s budget, but Carrick eliminating the need to sign a winger will certainly help.
