Sunderland man seals '£17m' move just months after leaving Brighton

Transfer deadline latest from Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League

Ex-Albion winger Simon Adingra is set to seal a surprise move to Monaco from Sunderland.

Adingra left Brighton last summer for around £20m and joined the newly-promoted Black Cats on a five year contract.

He has not been a regular for Regis Le Bris team this term and will now switch to Ligue1 with Monaco, who are 10th in the French top flight.

Adingra, 24, has made 15 appearances in total for Sunderland with one goal and one assist.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted: “Simon Adingra to AS Monaco, here we go!

“Verbal agreement done with Sunderland. Understand it’s a deal worth €1m with €17m buy option clause. Visa being sorted and medical next.”

He joined Brighton from FC Nordsjaelland in 2023 for around £8m and went on to make 73 outings from Brighton with 12 goals and five assists.

Tommy Watson to Millwall

Meanwhile former Sunderland winger Tommy Watson joined Millwall for the rest of season on loan from Brighton.

Watson signed for Brighton last summer for around £10m. The England youth international has struggled to make an impact at the Amex so far and now join the Championship promotion chasers.

Despite some reports, it is believed to be a straight loan with no obligation to buy.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler said, “Tommy’s settled in well, but has had a frustrating time with injuries. He’s now fit and keen to play and this gives him the opportunity.

“He is an exciting young player and he now has the chance to help Millwall with their Premier League promotion push.

“The move will really benefit his development. It’ll give him significant game time and allow him to build on an outstanding breakthrough season with Sunderland last season, where he was integral in their promotion.

“We wish him well for the second half of the season and look forward to welcoming him back in the summer.”
