The Toffees started the day off well after agreeing a deal for Tyrique George – who is set to arrive on loan from Chelsea with Everton also having an option to buy in the summer.

However, a new swoop for Harry Wilson has been rebuffed by Fulham – and the Telegraph now believe Kalvin Phillips is moving out of reach for David Moyes as a surprising loan to Sheffield United nears.

If you could sign one player, who would it be Everton fans? 🤩

Everton stung for playing the waiting game as Sheffield United make Kalvin Phillips progress

A story from Caught Offside earlier on Monday stated that Everton are interested in Phillips – but wanted to wait and see if Manchester City would lower their £10m asking price for a permanent deal.

In the meantime, Sheffield United have seemingly been holding productive talks with Manchester City, as the Telegraph now report that the England international is edging closer to a loan move to Bramall Lane.

Phillips has only made one appearance under Pep Guardiola so far this season, which came in the Carabao Cup and lasted just seven minutes.

Everton have no need for Kalvin Phillips anyway

We are taking the initial report from Caught Offside with a pinch of salt, as Everton have little need for a new central midfielder right now.

Moyes already has a fine midfield pairing of Idrissa Gueye and James Garner – not to mention the talented Merlin Rohl to call upon as a backup.

Everton also have Harrison Armstrong who can play in central midfield, as can Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Tim Iroegbunam, who Lazio like.

How would you feel about selling Tim Iroegbunam on deadline day for £15m? 💰

That goes without mentioning the fact that the 30-year-old has hardly played any football this season, and it may take him a number of weeks to get himself into a position where he can handle 90 minutes.

So, even if Manchester City had lowered that £10m asking price for a permanent deal, it would have made little sense for Everton to sign Phillips.
