Man Utd have changed their transfer plans in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old was initially deemed surplus to requirements at first team level, but United have decided to keep him around after an injury blow to Patrick Dorgu. United are set to be without Dorgu for roughly two months, though there is no precise timeline on his return date yet.
Malacia is reportedly 'very disappointed' that he won't be allowed to leave in the January window, but United have protected their best interests as they go in search of European football. Although the Dutch defender is still far down the pecking order at Old Trafford, it makes sense to keep him just in case they suffer another setback while they are already without Dorgu.

Manchester United plans for Tyrell Malacia
Manchester United will let Tyrell Malacia leave the club in the summer window after they scrapped plans to sanction his exit this month. Malacia is out of contract at the end of the campaign and will be allowed to leave as a free agent. He can already sign a pre-contract transfer agreement with an overseas club.
The Dutch full-back was frozen out under former head coach Ruben Amorim last summer, but was reintegrated back into the senior set-up after he failed to secure a summer move. Malacia remains on the periphery under new head coach Michael Carrick, though he is still an experienced option who gives them cover at a time when they are without fellow full-back Patrick Dorgu.
It is understood Malacia is 'very disappointed' and 'frustrated' by the change of transfer plan, though United sources insist they simply acted in their own best interests after the recent injury blow. Club sources strongly denied the suggestion that an agreement was already in place for the 26-year-old to leave before the deadline, or that he was in the process of travelling for a medical.
Malacia will instead remain as part of the United first-team set-up for the rest of the season before his future is revisited in the summer. His solitary first-team appearance this season came during the Boxing Day win over Newcastle and he has been named on the bench in every match under both Darren Fletcher and Carrick.
