Sunderland have now agreed a surprise last-minute deal to sign an instant replacement for Simon Adingra, with a medical already reportedly underway.
Monaco agree deal to sign Adingra
After just six months in Wearside, Adingra is heading to Monaco. The former Brighton & Hove Albion winger arrived with plenty of expectation placed on his shoulders, but has ultimately failed to deliver. Now, he's set to join the Ligue 1 side in an initial loan deal, which will include a buy option worth €17m (£15m).
Adingra is set to follow a number of other players out the door in the winter window. His departure follows exits for Dan Neil, Anthony Patterson, Arthur Masuaki and others around the Stadium of Light.
Those exits have come for good reason, though, with the Black Cats also welcoming reinforcements of their own in Jocelin Ta Bi and Melker Ellborg in recent weeks.
The latter became the latest to arrive earlier this week and told the club website after putting pen to paper: “It feels amazing to have signed for this Club.

The Black Cats could make yet another statement signing.
"The past few days have been enjoyable, from learning about the interest, getting to know the Club and the people, and finalising the move.
"The Club has had an excellent season so far, and I’m incredibly happy to be part of this journey. I’m aware of Sunderland’s history, and it means a lot to be part of something with such a rich tradition."
Those in Wearside aren't done there with signings, either. As Adingra heads for the exit door, another attacking star is reportedly on his way ahead of the deadline.
Sunderland agree shock deal to sign Nilson Angulo
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Sunderland have now agreed a shock deal to sign Nilson Angulo. The Anderlecht winger is already undergoing a medical at the club and is set to become a direct replacement for Adingra.
The deal emerged from nowhere, with Sunderland working behind-the-scenes on deadline day to secure another impressive attacker for Regis Le Bris.
Angulo, just 22 years old, will be an instant upgrade on Adingra. The Ecuador winger has scored seven goals and assisted another eight in 30 appearances for Anderlecht this season. He is more than ready for the Premier League.
