Crystal Palace are pushing for Dwight McNeil as Oliver Glasner aims to bolster his attack amid the imminent departure of Jean-Philippe Mateta.

It would be a surprise if Everton sold Dwight McNeil without signing a replacement first, but Paul Joyce has now suggested that could well happen as an asking price has been decided on.

Everton want £20m from Crystal Palace to sell Dwight McNeil

The hugely reliable journalist has now claimed on X (previously known as Twitter) that Everton want “around” £20m to part ways with the 26-year-old.

Everton paid £20m to sign McNeil from Burnley back in July 2022 – since then, he has scored 15 goals and provided 19 assists in 120 appearances for the Toffees.

David Moyes left the Everton No.7 on the bench last time out for the 1-1 draw at Brighton, having presumably been left annoyed by the man from Rochdale’s lack of effort in the 1-1 draw against Leeds before that game.

McNeil was seen casually jogging back – easily allowing James Justin to escape his grasp and score to put Leeds ahead.

This poor attitude, and the fact he only has 18 months remaining on his contract, appears to have made The Friedkin Group open to a sale, so long as they recoup the £20m spent on him initially.

Nottingham Forest also want Dwight McNeil

Even if Crystal Palace cough up the £20m asking price, the south Londoners may yet face some late competition from Sean Dyche.

If you could sign one player, who would it be Everton fans? 🤩

Sky Sports believe Nottingham Forest also want McNeil – but Everton were hoping to sign a replacement before allowing the Englishman to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Joyce – however – did not mention anything about Everton wanting a replacement, so a bid of £20m could well be enough to lure the unpopular midfielder away from Merseyside.
