The Athletic reports that in the run up to Sunday’s game against Andoni Iraola’s former club Rayo Vallecano, Garcia came close to leaving the club, but he did not and was an unused substitute.
The 26-year-old left back worked with Iraola at Rayo, with their stints at the Madrid club overlapping directly, both at the club from 2020 to 2023.
Sources of the Athletic from the player said they were expecting him to join the Cherries on loan – but after Madrid decided not to progress with the move, there was some disappointment.
Garcia appears to be fourth choice left back at the Spanish giants, behind Alvaro Carreras, Ferland Mendy and midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
